Testimonials
"I started yoga classes at Equilibrium Fitness last year and have been very impressed with the instructors knowledge and expertise. I like being challenged and progressing in my fitness regime and I have found that with Equilibrium Fitness!
I decided to try Pilates after reading a testimonial about someone with spine issues who had worked with Phyllis Douglass. I had become aware that my pelvis was locked and I was unable to do some of the yoga poses properly as I was compensating by bending at the waist instead of at the hip. I also had a twisted vertebra.
I started Pilates with Phyllis at the end of August 2011. I really enjoy Pilates and look forward to sessions. My postural alignment and muscle strength have improved and I can lift heavier objects with ease. My pelvis has become more flexible and I have more agility and fluidity in movement. I continue to learn new information about myself and my body with each session.
Phyllis Douglass is an excellent instructor and has a vast knowledge of the structure and muscles of the body."

"I got into Pilates to work on my core since I learned that a strong core is the corrective for low back pain and for avoiding hip injury. I've been going to Equilibrium Fitness close to three years and it has been a special place for me that is welcoming and friendly, the teacher/trainers are highly trained and experienced, the equipment are latest technology, class offerings are always updated and Phyllis (Owner/Principle Trainer) tries to make the services accessible by offering discounts and promos. I also appreciate the electronic confirmation of my appointments and the neat website that is chockfull of interesting news announcements"
As I move on in my senior years I'm discovering that learning new movements can be a little intimidating and I don't always catch on quickly to what my Pilates Trainer, Richard, is teaching me. After all, Pilates has its own vocabulary and because for many years my body was set in ways that are not alignment-friendly. But Richard is very sensitive to my issues, understanding and patient and always makes the learning process pleasant and encouraging. He is a good coach who will push me to the limit but always makes sure its safe. The other day he told me there's nothing I can do that you can't do. Of course he was exaggerating. I appreciate that before a session he always asks how I feel, and if I had any injuries or challenges so he can make modifications in my work-out. Mid-point in the session he checks that my body is holding out alright, and, towards the conclusion, whether there's anything I might want to work on in particular. During some movements like the splits on the reformer or the jackknife it assuages my apprehension of falling or hurting myself that Richard is substantially stronger and agile than me.
Over all, I find my posture has greatly improved; the constant drilling about holding up the sternum, pulling and reaching up the crown of the head, keeping shoulders down, hallowing out the tummy and breathing deeply all translate to a body that is elongated, flexible, oxygen-nourished and optimally healthy.
Private Pilates sessions may carry an affordability factor, but the benefits to enhanced well-being and improved health especially in senior years is the best investment we can make. I recommend Equilibrium Fitness highly. I consider it a blessing to have it right here in the community."

“At 89 years young, I have been taking Pilates since August 2011 with Phyllis Douglass and look forward to my sessions. When I started I had decreased range of motion from an old injury to my left arm and was experiencing balance issues and pain that was hindering daily activities and things that I enjoy doing.
Pilates has been an immense help in my attaining better postural alignment, balance and circulation. I have noticed that I am stronger, the range of motion has improved in my arms and shoulders, and I am enjoying a broader range of motion and more flexibility in my entire body. People have even commented on the changes that they see and that I am standing and walking much straighter!
With much improved balance and coordination of movement, I am now able to walk with longer strides and for longer periods of time than before I started taking Pilates. Phyllis gives me exercises to do at home which include walking regularly and time on my stationary bike. This has helped me maintain my progress between sessions and when I am on vacation.
Phyllis specializes in working with the older adult population with a focus on balance training and stabilization. I highly recommend her services and that of Equilibrium Fitness. It continues to be a rewarding experience!”
